The A6M2-K was the two-seat trainer version derived from the Model 21; Hitachi and the Sasebo Naval Air Arsenal built a total of 508 aircraft. Later, up to seven Model 52s were converted into A6M5-K trainers, though mass production of that conversion, contemplated by Hitachi, was never undertaken.
