History
The development contract was signed in February 2017 between Russia's state aircraft corporation and the Ilyushin bureau, aiming at the market of the Boeing 777-9 and Airbus A350-1000. By early 2020 the first test airframe had wing and fuselage joined, but in April 2021 it was announced that there would be no series production and only two aircraft would be built, for lack of airline interest. The 2022 sanctions revived the programme: the aircraft was rolled out in June 2023 and first flew on 1 November that year, still with PS-90 engines. From 2025 the model appears in the national plan to prepare for series manufacture.
