It shows the pre-flight checks of systems, warning lights, fuel pumps and propeller pitch, and the handover of the final load sheet to the captain. This is followed by engine start-up, the announcement to passengers and take-off, with gear and flap retraction and power adjustment according to exhaust gas temperature.

When and where it was filmed

According to the title and description, this is 1969 footage from the NZBC programme "Flight South", which followed the flight from Auckland to Christchurch with a stopover in Wellington. In the cockpit were Captain Tony Timmings and First Officer Ted Wild, in command of National Airways flight 429 to Wellington.

Context

Before take-off, the Friendship, which the narrator describes as weighing 18 tonnes, waits for a Boeing 707 bound for San Francisco to depart. The narrator explains that the flight number also serves as the call sign in radio communications, and that the airline employed 247 pilots at the time.
