History
One aircraft, two jobs
The Fokker 100QC — for quick change — was introduced in 1994, a year after the extended-range version with additional centre-fuselage tanks. It allows a switch from passenger to freighter configuration in a matter of hours, the classic formula of fleets flying passengers by day and mail or parcels by night.
A second life as a freighter
The niche the QC opened outlived the manufacturer itself. After Fokker's bankruptcy, third parties such as Phoenix Aero Solutions have offered their own conversion programmes to turn airframes that left the factory as airliners into freighters, extending the life of aircraft that airlines were retiring from passenger work.
