Video from the channel Aero Por Trás da Aviação about Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 9:22. Language: Portuguese. Video type: Onboard.

What's covered

A visit to the second of the Bandeirante's three prototypes, preserved at the Brazilian Aerospace Memorial (MAB) in São José dos Campos, home to DCTA, ITA and Embraer. It's shown from the outside, in the passenger cabin, in the cockpit and in the lavatory.

Details shown

The prototypes had four round windows per side and were designed for about eight passengers. The production model grew to 12 seats and changed the window shape. It has two PT6 turboprops, and the presenter cites over 420 km/h, over 14 m in length, over 15 m in wingspan and almost 5 m in height. On this prototype the only entrance is a door behind the wing. The windows are large because the aircraft is unpressurized, and there is an emergency exit. The panel is analog and lacks instruments for blind flying. It has an airspeed indicator, altimeter, variometer, VOR, turn-and-bank indicator, engine instruments and a bad-weather window. At the back there is a lavatory, without a washbasin, and a luggage rack.

Background

The idea came from Ozires Silva in the 1960s: a regional turboprop to operate from rough airstrips, a market Boeing, Douglas and Lockheed had left aside. The first prototype flew on 22 October 1968 and Embraer was founded in 1969. Its civil use is cited in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, France, England and Australia, and its military use in Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Cape Verde, Angola and Gabon. It served as the basis for the Xingu.
