From patrol to submarine hunting

The ATR 72 ASW integrates the ATR 72MP mission system with similar on-board equipment, but adds anti-submarine warfare capability. A variant of the -600 is also in production, itself derived from the maritime patrol model of the ATR 42-600.

For the ASW and anti-surface missions it is armed with lightweight aerial torpedoes. Its surveillance suite is the Thales AMASCOS (Airborne Maritime Situation and Control System), together with electronic warfare and reconnaissance systems, which also lets it perform maritime search and rescue duties.
