First operational F-35A permanently stationed in the Netherlands
Milestone — Dutch F-35A F-009 landed at Leeuwarden air base at half past three in the afternoon, this time to stay: it was the first operational aircraft permanently stationed in the country. The Netherlands had previously received test aircraft, but training and testing were carried out in the United States. The country had formally selected the Lightning II in 2013 with a plan for thirty-seven aircraft.
