  Accident — On 27 March 1977 two Boeing 747 passenger jets collided on the runway at Los Rodeos Airport on the Spanish island of Tenerife. The crash killed 583 people and injured 61 others, making it the deadliest accident in aviation history. It prompted a wholesale review of radio phraseology, cockpit communication and runway procedures.
