Germany decides to buy 35 F-35A for the NATO nuclear mission
Institutional — The German government announced the purchase of thirty-five F-35As to replace the Tornado in NATO's nuclear sharing deterrence mission. The decision came three weeks after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Chancellor Olaf Scholz's budget turn, and ended years of Berlin's reluctance towards the aircraft, which it had ruled out in 2019 in favour of the Super Hornet.
