Canada announces its intention to buy 65 F-35A

The Canadian government announced its intention to acquire sixty-five F-35As to replace its CF-18 Hornets, without a competition. The decision opened a controversy lasting more than a decade over the programme's real cost, leading to the purchase being cancelled in 2012, the process reopened, and the same aircraft finally chosen again in 2023.
