Australia confirms 58 more F-35A, raising its order to 72

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced approval for fifty-eight additional F-35As, taking the country's total order to seventy-two aircraft and three operational squadrons. The purchase, worth around 12.4 billion Australian dollars, was intended to replace the classic F/A-18A/B Hornets. Australia had been in the programme since 2002.
