Long-range project with six Kuznetsov NK-8 turbofans instead of the four turboprops. Offered as an alternative to the Ilyushin Il-62M, it never reached production.

Swapping the powerplant for bypass jets would have removed at a stroke the noise and vibration that plagued the Tu-114's cabin, but also its great advantage: exceptionally low fuel burn for the size of aircraft. The Soviet Union preferred the Il-62M and the proposal was shelved.
