History
Starting at Mitsubishi production number 4651, the A6M5a replaced the drum-fed Type 99-2 Mark 3 cannon (100 rounds per gun) with the belt-fed Mark 4 (125 rounds per gun), removing the ammunition-drum bulge under the wing and relocating the spent-case ejection port. Thicker wing skinning was also fitted to permit higher diving speeds.
